So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.
STEVE GUNN – “MORNING ON K ROAD”
“I was in the city one morning, out early, and I had a chance encounter with a friend who I hadn’t seen in a long time,” Steve Gunn says of this latest preview of his upcoming album Daylight Daylight. “Someone who I would regularly see in New York. The song was born from that brief, almost surreal moment of reconnection. It’s a bit of a dedication to him, capturing the feeling of that encounter. I love New Zealand, and I wanted to stick a metal pin in the map of that spot, with that memory.

Ora the Molecule, who will be on tour with Cut Copy this fall, has just shared a delightful remix of “Løveskatt” by fellow Norwegian Prins Thomas. Says Prins, “I’m really excited for this remix to come out. It’s a true passion project and one of my favourite tracks from last year. HELADO NEGRO – “PROTECTOR”
Helado Negro has a new EP on the way, The Last Sound on Earth, that was inspired by “Miami bass, freestyle, jungle, and electronic dance music I grew up dancing to.” He adds: “The title and theme Protector, is rooted in two foundational songs. The first is BDP’s ‘Who Protects Us From You,’ which talks about who police’s police? Who checks authority in our lives? The second is Massive Attack’s ‘Protection,’ which changed how I thought about production—specifically the contrast between heavy themes and electronic melodies and these gentle beautiful lyrical waves. Ultimately, Protector is two things. We all need protection—physically, mentally, and spiritually—but we also have a reciprocal duty to protect.”

MARSY – “CHANCE THE DANCER / LET NO OTHER CHANGE YOUR MIND”
Marsy is a band led by UK singer-songwriter Hannah Rodgers who have just signed to Heavenly Recordings and released her first single for the label. These two songs were produced by Mike Lindsay of Tuung and LUMP, and Hannah says, “The songs are delicate and raw, and as a band we embrace that, rather than just trying to get the most rock ‘n’ roll set together. It’s honest, sometimes it might be slow — but having a song that’s slow and spacious is a beautiful thing.”
